The 2025 LoO IMCA Style Modified season kicked off last night at Cedar Lake with the 2nd annual Icebreaker 25. There were only 8 cars in attendance but that didn’t prevent some great racing right out of the gate in heat 1. There was no qualifying and the heat races were determined by random draw. AJ Hunsinger led the field to the green flag and led 7 of the 8 laps. James Murphy was charging up top with Hunsinger down low. Coming to the checkered flag, Murphy edged out Hunsinger by a bumper.
In heat race number 2, Trevor Doyle started on pole. Tyler Bickford started 4th and made quick work on the high side as he raced his way to the lead. On the final corner of the final lap, Jared Murphy was trying to complete the pass for 2nd position over Trevor Doyle. Murphy was not clear and both cars got into the outside wall coming to the line. Murphy was able to take 2nd place in heat 2.
Each heat winner set the front row for the feature event, James Murphy on the inside with Tyler Bickford on the outside. James Murphy jumped out to an early lead but Bickford never let him get very far ahead.
The race for the 3rd place was on-going for quite a while. AJ Hunsinger had the spot and Jared Murphy wanted it. After several laps of hard battling, Jared Murphy finally overtook the position.
A little further back was a battle between Trevor Doyle, Jaxon Whittington, and Gavin Joslyn. Whittington, was the hard charger as he gained the most positions in the race driving from last to 6th. Trevor Doyle and Gavin Joslyn had some late race contact with just under two laps to go which resulted in Doyle having to bring his #024 machine pitside.
Back up front, James Murphy and Tyler Bickford battled hard for the race lead. Bickford kept trying to make the race winning pass on the bottom in the slick as Murphy stuck up top on the cushion.
Jared Murphy, showed some very good speed in the closing laps and was able to close in on the two race leaders. He would run out of time though and James Murphy held on for the feature win.
